Spamassassin and Denial of Service

LinuxDevCenter.com: Problems in SpamAssassin, PEAR, and Bugzilla: "SpamAssassin, a popular Spam filtering tool written using Perl, is reported to be vulnerable to a denial of service attack that could cause the server it is running on to become unresponsive."

Um, I think that's the 'FROM' header.

Opinion: The wrong Rx

Opinion: The wrong Rx:
Despite all the time and effort lawmakers have spent trying to fix our health care system, it is still the costliest in the world.
I'm continually stunned by how pathetically bad the medical situation is in America: In addition to the chilling knowledge that they'll never get out of debt or own their own home, most of them don't have adequate medical coverage. If they have an accident, or even some idea that they need a regular check-up, they're financially fucked. I've already written about how half of American bankruptcy is due to medical bills and how they're essentially discriminating with a system like theirs so it's pointless to go on; just read the other stuff.

But now we're getting report after report telling us just how pathetic their system is. I remember reading a paper a few years back which suggested Americans pay 30% more for their medical non-care than other countries, and this still in the environment where they all expect less care for that extra money already. Now, though, apparently they're paying double for nearly nothing. That's awesome.

The sicky dark secret is that we're slowly being edged that way, month by month, by greedy doctors who want to have their slick medical system and also scads of cash at the same time -- not realizing how the two goals can potentially conflict. They think that a two-tiered system will work wonderfully here, completely ignoring the reality of those systems' effects on people in other countries which have moved to such a system: discrimination based on income, where those More Worthy of advanced procedures and equipment, by virtue of a larger paycheque, get beter service than the rest of us.

We're so pathetic we don't even vote out the fuckers who're doing this to us. We suck, and soon we'll all be like the dreaded slack-jawed, unhealthy and bankrupt Americans.

Overheard in New York: Make Sure You Don't Spill His "Thetans"

Overheard in New York: Make Sure You Don't Spill His "Thetans": "Girl: Do you know if Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will have a Scientology themed wedding?...I wonder what that would be like?
Guy: You probably kneel down on the altar after the vows, suck L. Ron Hubbard's cock, and then pay him for it.

--L train"

'Overheard in New York' just got a bit edgier. I hope the CoS doesn't start making them nervous, since they may become Fair Game now.

And now I gotta clean chocolate milk off my monitor.

Housing Markets Pricing Out Middle Class - Yahoo! News

Housing Markets Pricing Out Middle Class - Yahoo! News: "'Many people are paying well over 50 percent of their income for shelter. It leaves no money for savings or sometimes even for recreation.'"

So, quite simply, unless you inherit a house, don't consider buying one. Isn't it great that a college education can now get you a mere apartment? yay!

Consider the indirect ramifications of this, though: With a horde of people no longer able to buy a house, it means more people will be renting homes. That means more apartment complexes need to be built - tomorrow's slums - but also that lower-income folks will soon be pushed out of the running for an apartment of their own, even. Back to the projects, then?

Now, in America, even your apartment is little more than a disposable shelter, really, for you can bounce around more easily than before. With everyone living in their disposable little box, rented by the month and identical to a million others, do you think we'll all invest the time to get to know our neighbours? I don't expect it. How about investing the time to vote, speak out, learn, read or discuss issues? Nope, I don't think we'll be doing much of that any longer. Unfortunately, the economy seems to be linked to our well-being more than expected.
